Finding Rest in Christ's Embrace

In today's Gospel, Jesus extends an invitation that echoes through the centuries to every weary soul. Like Bishop Barron reminds us, this is not merely a suggestion but a divine command wrapped in love. The Greek word for "weary" here is "kopiao," which means to labor to the point of exhaustion. Jesus sees our struggles, our burdens, our daily crosses, and He doesn't offer platitudes—He offers Himself. Consider Maria, a single mother in Lagos who works three jobs to support her children. Each morning, she whispers this verse before facing another day. She discovered that Christ's rest isn't the absence of work, but the presence of peace within the work. This is the mystery of the Incarnation—God doesn't remove us from our struggles but enters into them with us. As Fulton Sheen beautifully expressed, "The cross is not a detour or a hurdle; it is the path itself." When we come to Jesus with our burdens, we don't come empty-handed. We bring our fears, our hopes, our broken dreams, and our stubborn faith. And in that sacred exchange, we discover that His yoke is indeed easy and His burden light.

Today's Call to Action

Today, spend 10 minutes in silent prayer. Bring one specific burden to Jesus and ask Him to show you how to carry it with His strength, not your own.
